Overview

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

 To strengthen and expand our market share and maximize returns from the sales of Agrochemicals and Fertilizers by coordinating and managing the Company’s marketing efforts in the African region within the framework of company policy.

a)    Maintain and grow existing and new distributors/agents

  • Determines the market potential by sales area of company range of products and expand customer base accordingly.
  • Identify new markets and establish relationships with agents to grow our business.
  • Develops and implements a marketing plan and sales strategy, based on market potential, identified priority products and projected market share.
  • Annually submits regional sales objectives by country phased monthly.
  • Monitors sales performance on an ongoing basis, and reviews and updates sales projections and stock requirements as and when required.
  • Supervises and monitors the marketing plan and sales strategy, and motivates adjustments as and when required.
  • Continuously assessing and identifying market demands and customer/agent needs.

 

b)   Market Planning and Sales Strategy

  • Determines the regional market potential by sales area of company range of products.
  • Develops and implements a regional marketing plan and sales strategy, based on market potential, identified priority products and projected market share.
  • Annually submits regional sales objectives by sales area phased monthly.
  • Monitors regional sales performance on an ongoing basis, and reviews and updates sales projections and stock requirements as and when required.
  • Supervises and monitors the regional marketing plan and sales strategy, and motivates adjustments as and when required.
  • Continuously drive the expansion of company customer base in the region
  • Responsible for managing the sales team, developing a business plan covering sales revenue, and expense controls, meeting agreed targets, and promoting the organisation’s presence throughout the region

c)    Product Management within the Region

  • Evaluate company products range, on an ongoing basis and identifies actual and potential weaknesses. Recommends new introductions to and deletions from the product range.
  • Conducts cooperative cultivar demonstrations and evaluates new potential cultivars.
  • Determines regional promotion/advertising needs and formulates and implements an effective product support programme in conjunction with the Product Managers.
  • Ensures that all promotional/advertising support material and sales aids are freely available to Agents, Sales Representatives and customers in his/her region.
  • Assist and advise on new product registrations in the various African countries.
  • Execute ongoing training programmes to ensure all customers and agents are up to date concerning product knowledge.
  • Ensure all products are sold, comply with the relevant legislation about each African country, and advises on any changes.

d)   Product Launch and Market Development

  • Motivate and introduce semi-commercial trials to agents and sales teams with the necessary supporting documents and trial results
  • Launch new commercial products to the agents and sales teams and supply the necessary product launch documents and strategies.
  • Build strong networking relationships with key industry role players (i.e. agents, supermarkets, processors, media and consultants), identify and promote opportunities to grow the product range.

e)    Financial Budgets / Sales Forecasts

  • Annually submits a financial budget based on projected sales/marketing expenses and capital expenditure in his/her region.
  • Monitors and controls sales/marketing expenses in his/her region, motivating adjustments as and when required.
  • Monitors unit budgets and advises when changes need to be made concerning purchases and allocations.
  • Compiles a customer list per product and identify potential new customers per crop.
  • Annually submits a financial budget based on projected technical / marketing expenses and capital expenditure.
  • Monitors and controls technical / marketing expenses, motivating adjustments as and when required.
  • Monitor unit sales per region and compare current sales performance against previous years’ sales performance.

 

f)     Customer Service

  • Creates a culture of superior customer service amongst sales agents.
  • Intervenes swiftly and effectively where problems cannot be resolved satisfactorily at the Sales Agent level and resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service.
  • Liaises with and contacts major customers regularly by arrangement with the Sales Agents.
  • Acts responsibly and professionally at all times fostering goodwill and a positive image for the Company.
  • Liaises with organisations and individuals outside the Company who may exert an influence on the Company’s activities and successes regularly.
  • Consult with the Marketing Director and Product Managers to plan advertising campaigns and to secure product information. Ensure that all customers/agents have access to product information at all times.
  • Evaluate merchandising of products against company standards and oversee implementation and execution thereof at customer/agent level.
  • Understands pricing laws in various countries and ensures compliance.
  • Identifies and communicates merchandise issues and selling opportunities to the Marketing Director.
  • Executes seamless transition between seasonal merchandise setups
  • Reinforces priorities through regular meetings with customers/agents.

 

g)   Administration

  • Submits monthly and other reports promptly as required.
  • Assists with the collection of outstanding debts.
  • Provides feedback on any changes and new developments in the marketplace that may affect the Company’s future planning and marketing strategy
  • Attends meetings and training courses as and when required
