Overview

The purpose of the position is to support the Section Manager Ore Characterisation of coal commodities in the field of Mineral Processing – Laboratory and Pilot Plant) in achieving their objectives and deliverables.

 Job Description:

  • Process and analyze incoming coal samples in accordance with industry-standard testing methods established by laboratory management and ASTM procedures.
  • Observe analytical results and quality control data to ensure compliant conditions.
  • Inform supervisor of any deviation from acceptable quality control and participate in corrective action.
  • Trouble shoot and maintain all laboratory equipment, as well as maintain good housekeeping throughout the laboratory.
  • Must adhere to all company and industry-established safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be willing to work as a team player.
  • Ensures that SHEQ issues are considered in all activities. Ensures that all staff, contractors and suppliers under direction are compliant with Anglo American’s Health, Safety and Environment management systems.
  • Adherence to safety standards and procedures.
  • Conducting Risk Assessments prior to any task at hand.
  • Delivery of assigned tasks on specified time.
  • Provide assistance/support to projects that are undertaken at operations.
  • Situational reporting to senior staff and accurately report on progress to supervisor as required.
  • Operation and maintenance of specialised sample preparation equipment.
  • De-commissioning and lock out of equipment after utilisation.
  • Monitor and report on quality related issues of consumables to supervisor. Monitor and provide updates on the availability of all consumables being used to ensure availability at all times.
  • Responsible for logging of bulk samples and preparation (splitting and screening) of feed and product samples for chemical analysis based on correct SOP.

      Qualifications:

  • A diploma in Metallurgy/ Chemical Engineering will be an advantage.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the same role
